My Most Anticipated Memoirs of Winter 2024
Upcoming reads on family, race, queer desire, and belonging
I started this quarterly roundup of soon-to-be published memoirs as a thank you to paid subscribers. If there’s a memoir you’re looking forward to this season, drop it in the comments and I’ll do my best to check it out. Happy reading!
Memoirs with Melissa is about more than shiny new reads. Even so, there’s value in keeping abreast of what’s new in the ever-evolving genre of memoir. It’s a way to keep a pulse on what’s happening in the world through the lens of various ages, races, genders, and more. And it’s a great way to support authors daring to put their stories on the page. Here are the seven I can’t wait to read and 12 more that are on my radar.
7 Memoirs I Can’t Wait to Read
1. Songs on Endless Repeat: Essays and Outtakes, by Anthony Veasna So
Pub Date: December 5, 2023
Publisher: Ecco
This book by the late Anthony Veasna So caught my eye for his essays on family, queer desire, and race. Don’t be tempted to skip over the fiction chapters from his unpublished novel sprinkled between essays. I was surprised to find they contained some of the most real writing I’ve encountered on the intersection of sexual orientation and family. (Specifically, check out the chapter titled “Darren and Vinny.”) I’m almost done with this ARC from NetGalley and glad I picked up something different than I’m used to reading.
