Readers, HuffPost has published the story I’ve been working to understand and articulate for years. It’s pretty much the heart of my memoir manuscript, minus the nitty gritty of romantic relationships along the way.
When I first started trying to write this story, I scribbled a mantra in the margin of my stream-of-consciousness draft. Edited today, it would say: May my words come from the truest place in me, and may they resonate deeply with humanity.
I can’t tell you how many times I’ve worked on my manuscript over the years thinking I wonder what’s going to happen to her, as if I’d turned into a character I had yet to crack on the page. Somehow I knew there’d be a surprise ending, which has turned out to be another beginning.
You can read the HuffPost article here. If my story resonates with you, you may also enjoy my interview with Jessi Hempel, author of The Family Outing, here.
All my reviews are public. I welcome and value every free subscriber. Paid subscriptions are an extra way to support my work in elevating the canon of human experience. As thanks, you’ll receive a quarterly roundup of my most anticipated, soon-to-be-published memoirs.
Melissa, your article is incredible. Well written, highly relatable, and present. I'm so glad you've shared it. Sign me up for the memoir once it's done!
An awesome and timely piece, Melissa!
